Hi Everyone, I would like to talk about being a university student. Being a university student is not easy as you face a lot of challenges from making friends to assignments as it gets harder to connect with new people and get used to the new environment.
I would like to talk about clothes, footwear, and accessories waste because people in developed countries throw their clothes, footwear, bags and accessories away and now we are facing a landfill problem. Many people in developed countries have used clothes, footwear, bags and accessories thrown into landfills instead of giving them to the poor people, to the people who can’t afford to buy clothes, footwear and accessories for themselves to use daily.
People in developed countries buy new clothes, footwear, bags and accessories and they never wear them as keep buying new clothes, footwear, bags and accessories without knowing that they have enough clothes, footwear, bags and accessories originally at their homes. They only wear the new clothes once not every day as they think it’s weird.
Not only that but these people who throw their used clothes into landfills should give them to local charities that fly to poor countries such as South Sudan, Kenya, Dominic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Yemen, Syria, and the Philippines as they don’t have enough great quality of clothes, footwear, bags and accessories.
To solve these landfill problems and prevent businesses from making profits in these poor countries for clothes, footwear, bags and accessories. The only way to solve this problem is that we need to encourage developed countries to have used clothes donations to trusted organizations that go to poor countries to give food, water and medical donations to these poor countries.
The process of receiving used clothes, footwear, bags and accessories is the same but we put them in different categories so that they cannot be washed together.
We wash them thoroughly by soaking hot water to remove molds and dirt first, and then we put clothes, footwear, bags and accessories into different categories for washing machines so that we can give clean clothes, footwear, bags and accessories to poor people and poor countries as we care about the people’s hygiene.
I would like to talk about my personal media interest which I will talk about is the Airsoft Milsims (Military Simulations). It is the most popular sport from Asia to North and South America as it is a fun sport to play indoors and outdoors with your friends and family in the Milsims sites.
Airsoft Milsims is called (Military Simulations) as you need to have replicas of guns that shoot plastic 6mm BB bullets powered by green gas or CO2 gas-powered guns and electric battery-powered guns. They must wear protective gear such as ballistic airsoft vests, equipment webbings that carries water ammunition for bb guns , helmets, face protective masks, eye protection glasses, gloves and hiking boots or combat boots. People can also wear sports shoes, hoodies and combat uniforms to play airsoft to protect themselves from injuries.
According to AIRSOFT BLOG | REDWOLF AIRSOFT (21 Sep 2021) “a man named Ichiro Nagata came up with the idea of creating replica guns that would fire harmless, plastic BBs. And thus, the history of airsoft began.”
Ichiro Nagata created this fun sport and many people around the world play Airsoft Milsims as he saw real gun samples and transformed them into replica guns that shoot plastic BB bullets.
Some of the YouTubers who play Airsoft Milsims have their own YouTube channels to post their video on YouTube. They filmed their play with some mini cameras attached to their helmet and played their Airsoft Milsims event at the same time to show their play on YouTube.
I have chosen Television which is commonly known as ‘TV’. This legacy media is used by many people. Television existed before the internet and it’s still commonly used however Internet is seen to be embedded into Television in today’s date also known as smart TV.
The internet has impacted Traditional TV since many people have shifted from watching traditional TV to the Internet as many people watch the news, live sports, and entertainment on the internet.
TV was initially invented in the 1930s but only elite people afforded it during that time as it was very expensive and wasn’t introduced to mass audiences. In 1949, about 2 million households in the USA had television sets. The UK was small but large and had growing mass audiences and it was mass-produced.
The US Department of Defense developed ARPANET (Advance Research Projects Agency Network), the first Internet created in 1963 for military and research purposes at universities and research laboratories.
Why do people use the Internet and Traditional TV for?
It wasn’t for public use since it was restricted and wasn’t introduced to mass audiences or the mass media until 1 Jan 1983. This is when it was officially introduced to mass audiences and as mass media.
We all watch and use TV because of live news, drama series, entertainment, music shows, and watch live sports. We also use it to play video games (PS2, PS3, and X-box)
According to Emmaline Soken-Huberty (23 Oct 2021) “People gather for sports games, big TV events like the Academy Awards, or just to watch their favorite show together. People have also found connection with total strangers over their shared love of a TV show, creating what’s known as ‘fandoms.’”
People gather together because they can watch live sports games that support national players representing the country, see the academy awards, or watch their favorite show together. We make strangers as friends through the shared love of a TV show which can create “fandom”.
Not only that, it can boost our creativity in our work and our language that how we use the proper technique to speak and build a further connection with other people.
We all use the internet for entertainment, online shopping, watching online news and live sports, writing emails, and doing business.
The Internet has the same feature as TV because we use it to entertain ourselves, watch drama series, movies, sports, interviews, highlights, and play online games.
Because nowadays many generation Z people use the internet to browse drama series, movies, sports, interview highlights, and for online games.
According to Stacy Seto (12 Jan 2018) “On top of that, the internet offers endless sources of entertainment. There are thousands of movies, games, books, and music you can access for free online. Everything we can possibly think of is available right now on the world wide web. This has completely changed the way we enjoy our free time.”
As you can see that the internet has unlimited sources of entertainment more than traditional TV as there are many movies, games, books, and music that we can access for free on the internet. Also, everything that is available is on the world wide web as we can use the internet for entertainment in our free time and it has made our lives easier to access for entertainment.
I use mostly the internet as I don’t have a traditional TV at home since my home doesn’t have enough space, so I usually use the internet for music, dramas, movies, searching for information, and news so that I can be updated.
But the only difference between the TV and the Internet is that you can do online business-like trading, buying, and selling products, writing emails, using social networks, video communication, create websites, blogs, photos, and video editing, and also find information while TV is just used for watching live news and sports, drama series, movies, and also for entertainment.
Impact of the internet over Traditional TV.
But young people age group of 13 to 24 prefer the Internet over TV since some people don’t have time to watch broadcast TV, live sports, drama series, and for entertainment, as you can browse the internet anytime and anywhere. That means they give up on traditional TV as they use the internet more frequently.
According to wit. Work (25 Jun 2019) “In many ways, this depiction is accurate; nearly half (47%) of millennials and members of Generation X don’t watch any traditional TV, and the majority of the content they do access is not live.”
The source explains that the description of people using the internet over TV is accurate nearly half (47%) of millennials and generation X members don’t watch any traditional TV as they lose interest in watching traditional TV and they don’t have enough time to watch TV, so they try to access the internet to watch live at their workplace. While they try to access the majority of the content live on the internet is not live. Even if they try to access the content live as it just buffers a lot as you have to have a better visual of the content live that people watch on the internet.
Comparing Generation X to the millennials and generation Z has a huge difference as generation X mainly uses broadcast TV to stay updated, at that time the internet wasn’t common as an official for public use. if they did use the internet, either they serve in the special military branches or studied science and technology to search for formulas in laboratories in universities.
In 2008, 70% of people used Traditional TV to watch the news, entertainment, and live sports since the broadcasting channels had a lot of views and subscriptions. Also, every household had a TV to stay updated and watch TV for Entertainment and live sports purposes. While 30% of people use the internet using it for entertainment, news, and live sports. At that time, the internet was developed but it needed improvements since the internet technology was developing during that time.
People using Traditional TV over the internet have changed in 2021 since the number of people who watch TV has dropped to 15% compared to 2008 as many people use the internet and they stay updated anytime and anywhere.
The impact of Traditional TV is that the traditional TV channels company has closed down as Traditional TV views have dropped and many people have switched from watching TV to the internet.
As people in the past watched the news and entertainment on TV but now everyone can watch or get the news online and entertainment sources for free on the internet.
When we look at the millennials, they are in between the development of broadcast TV and the beginning of the internet as it was developing. They also try to access the internet but at that time the internet wasn’t that fast due to limited wireless technology so they relied more on TV that has a clear color visual and less on the internet to stay updated compared to generation X as they only relied on broadcast TV that has black and white visual.
Lastly, we look at generation Z, they are in the developed age of broadcast TV as broadcast TV has a clear and 3D visualization and improved development of the internet as the wireless technology has improved and we can stay updated faster. Also, generation Z can access faster compared to millennials and generation Z.
According to Zaryn Dentzel “The Internet has turned our existence upside down. It has revolutionized communications, to the extent that it is now our preferred medium of everyday communication. In almost everything we do, we use the Internet.”
Nowadays the Internet has changed many people as we all use it for entertainment, communications, live news, and sports. No matter what we do, we use the Internet for nearly everything in our daily lives instead of talking to our loved ones face-to-face or even watching TV. So, the disadvantage is that many people use the Internet for communication to live sports rather than finding information on TV and we can’t choose as it’s a live broadcast. As for the internet we use it anytime and anywhere.
Conclusion
In conclusion, traditional Television known as the TV will not die as a legacy medium since half of the world’s population relies on TV to use it for gaining information and for leisure as the TV is offline and they don’t have access as it can work without the internet.
Traditional TV has some features that the internet doesn’t have like many people watch live sports without buffering in TV, while we are taking transportation, they have a small TV for passengers so we can stay updated since we don’t have time to watch the news at home or even at work and it brings people closer once they watch their favorite shows, dramas, and movies.
However, some sources say that traditional TV will likely die since you can access the internet for your leisure use and the traditional TV channels are losing audiences because many people shifted from using traditional TV to the internet as they find their drama and movies online for free instead waiting for the broadcast channel to show the movie in a specific time.
According to Michele Marius (May 13, 2022) “. In other words, although consumers might still have their cable/subscriber TV subscriptions active, they may not be consuming much of that content, but instead have been relying more on YouTube, Netflix and social media for entertainment.”
Even though many people use/have traditional TV at home and their subscriber TV subscription is active so that the number of subscriber viewers can be increased. However, they don’t consume much of the content on the subscriber TV instead they heavily rely on YouTube, Netflix, and social media using it for entertainment.
According to Nakedi Phala (06 Mar 2020) “Another reason why TV news is more convenient is that it is affordable. With data being an expensive commodity (especially in South Africa), some news lovers can’t afford to consume their news via the Internet, let alone social media platforms. And in many cases, they cannot even afford smart devices to gain access to the Internet! The classic benefit of TV? It can be watched by several people at any location — for example, at the airport, train station, or mall) — for free!”
TV is more convenient as it’s affordable and any family class can buy it to access news, live sports, entertainment, and drama series. People who cannot afford to have a smartphone, laptop, or tablet tab cannot access the internet due to internet data expensive commodity for the low-income family class. It also tries to explain that on some internet channels like Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, and Freeform as you have to pay for these channels to access your favorite drama series or movies. Rather than broadcast TV when you can watch it at home, airport, at the train station, or in malls for free and you don’t have to pay for it.
Transportation, hotels, restaurants and shopping malls have ambient TV since they have to use the ambient TV for people as they have to wait for their room booking or to stay updated before they arrive at their destination.
Although the internet has taken over Traditional TV as the internet became the new mass media, still Traditional TV will not die since some people use it daily to stay updated and they have limited access to the internet. Also, they have limited knowledge of the internet as they don’t know how to use it. So, I would like to say that Traditional TV will not die since there are some countries and some people use TV to stay updated or watch the news, live sports and watch entertainment on traditional TV.
The future of mass media is developing since there’s a rising number of developments in technology. Also, there’s a mass investment and production in AR known as Augmented Reality. The meaning/purpose of Augmented Reality is the real-time use of information in the form of text, graphics, audio, and other virtual enhancement integrated with real-world objects. Augmented Reality also has multiple sensory modality content similar to the human experience like visual, auditory, and olfactory.
Some examples can be used in Augmented Reality as it can be used in education as many higher institutions use it for students to visualize and understand challenging subjects since they have some difficulty understanding some subjects that are taught in colleges and universities.
It can also be used in gaming since some games have an Augmented Reality system and it can be played on smartphones and tablets for users to have the best visuals and graphics.
Furthermore, Augmented Reality can be used in shopping and it can make retail easier since some people would like to try on clothes in a fitting room, but once we have Augmented Reality in shopping we wouldn’t need the actual fitting room to try on the clothes instead we can have a virtual try-on and let the consumers configure products based on their preference by using the Augmented Reality.
According to Ilija Brajković (16 Oct 2018) “We see changes every day; we change every day. Technology enabled us to consume different kinds of content and more importantly, to create content. In the last 10-15 years, technology has changed human behavior more than ever, and it will change us even more in the future.”
It will change us forever since there are many developments in technology and we use it daily. Also, people follow many trends by looking at different content and information on the internet. Not only that but to create content so that people can stay updated.
Development and investment in AR
There has been some development of Augment reality since some smartphone companies have been testing it to develop it with mass production so that many people can buy and use it at the same time.
According to Dipanjan Das (Mar 22, 2022) “The roadmap of the DIY open AR glasses is well defined and describes the series of the timeline that the open AR community aims at or will follow after the previous launch of its version 1.0 which happened in January 2022 and the upcoming launches that will happen in coming years (2022-2026) to follow with updated hardware (checking sensitivity to environmental conditions and having the best sustainable solutions) and software interfaces (building APIs or apps).”
So, AR glasses are like smart glasses that have some computer mechanism works similarly to smartphones like android and IOS. Augmented Reality glasses use a front-facing camera and image recognition to locate pre-defined markers like QR codes, physical objects, and printed images. QR codes are most often used by many people since it’s easy to make out a QR code and people can scan it by using AR applications or AR glasses to access anything easily by using a QR code.
The AR technology will be developed in 4 years from 2022 to 2026 since the first AR Technology released its 1.0 version on January 2022 it will have to follow up with some hardware updates like environmental conditions and the sustainable solution using the AR technology and some software interfaces so that people can use it easily and prevent any AR faultily once many companies sell their first AR technology to many of their customers if customers buy AR technology and some fault occurs like the AR technology is not working well like charging, power on problems and features are not working. This will have many technology companies that produced AR technology will have heavy financial and product losses since some customers might need their money back or have a replacement.
I believe in the future that AR glasses will replace phones since the development of AR glasses is fast it’s going to be developed in four years from 2022 to 2026 and it will become a trend that many people will start using as it’s very compatible compared to smartphones.
At the moment, it’s not working since it needs improvement as it needs time by doing multiple tests and procedures of AR technology and applications so that it cannot have any technical faults and the company will not have any product and money/profit loss.
Some countries have AR technology and they have earned a lot of money as their revenue from developing and selling the AR technology to many people has risen a lot.
According to Sascha Brodsky (8 Sep 2021) “The augmented reality (AR) market is expected to generate global revenue of $152 billion by the end of 2030, making it the hottest selling mobile device, according to a new report by GlobalData, a data analytics company. Experts say that the increasing interest in AR is a sign that the technology is maturing.”
The Augmented Reality market will be expected to generate global revenue of $152 billion by the end of 2030 since many smartphone companies have been mass developing and producing from the smartphone companies so that many people can use Augment Reality technology. Also, this might be a sign that many smartphone companies have an increasing interest in AR technology and its maturing.
What will it be like to have AR technology?
When we afford to have AR technology, we will use AR technology like AR glasses and AR apps as tools.
According to Adam Hayes (29 Oct 2022) “Augmented reality (AR) is an enhanced version of the real physical world that is achieved through the use of digital visual elements, sound, or other sensory stimuli and delivered via technology. It is a growing trend among companies involved in mobile computing and business applications in particular.”
Once we have Augmented Reality (AR), we can have an indirect experience since we use Augmented Reality to explore the world instead of traveling to a country to have a direct experience as Augmented Reality has the direct experience by the visual elements, sound, and other sensory stimuli delivered by using Augmented Reality. Most experts say that AR technology will grow since there has been much development in AR technology and applications so that many people can use it and it will make their lives easier
Conclusion
In conclusion, using Augment Reality is great since you can have an indirect experience and make communication easier with other people.
In my opinion, I believe that the next communication will be Augmented Reality since many people use it for photography and gaming developers use AR technology so that gamers can have the best visual of the characters and better graphics. Photographers who use Augmented Reality applications, will have a clear visual of the photos and then took the original photos by using Augmented Reality applications in photography to improve the background, angles, and visuals of the photo. They will have the best quality of the photo since they have used AR photography applications.
There’s an example of the Augmented Reality applications used to develop in video games such as Pokémon Go and the walking dead Our World since they use the AR technology to let the players have the best graphics, play the game, and at the same time, they can chat with the other players while playing the games online.
Also, it’s really fun to use AR in video games since it has the best graphics and movement of the characters inside video games.
But we have to be very careful using AR application since it has some issues of privacy since it has a mass flow of data, gamers and users of AR can end up in an accident and should have the right requirement for using AR applications.
Augmented Reality will become the next mass media since the developers of many applications of our smartphones have AR systems and it’s been used in video games, Shopping, and photography to make our lives convenient and to have clear graphics and visuals while we use the AR technology or applications.
Not only that, all the functions that are used in Augmented Reality are much better than smartphones since sometimes it’s very complicated to use smartphones as it needs many security log-ins with your emails.
So, I would like to say that people using AR applications must balance between AR applications and the real world.
Lastly, Augmented Reality (AR) will become the next Mass Media since there is so much you can do and there has been much development of AR technology used in our apps and games so that consumers receive the best visuals and graphics performance.
